Day 2 is quickly coming to an end, even though there’s still quite a distance to go, to reach Moab, Utah. I used the last light of day to take this picture of the rock formation that gave Mexican Hat, Utah, its name. A turnoff allows you to get close to the base of the rock.
After this, the light was gone. I headed to Moab in the dark, passing by unknown beauty along the way. One thing I was able to see, one sign after another, warning me of the dangers of deer, darting into the road. With each sign, I wondered why I didn’t buy the extra insurance on my rental car. But, I didn’t hit one, or even see one… and finally finished the 120 or so mile journey to Moab.
Moab, UT makes a great base for exploring both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. It can be expensive on weekends, and in the height of tourist season.
