US 56 doubles as Broadway Street through downtown Larned, Kansas. Judging by the empty parking spots, there’s not a lot going on in Larned (at least on a Sunday)…
… but the downtown district does provide a nice place to step out of the car, stretch your legs, and explore. The town has aged gracefully, and thankfully it hasn’t done away with some great old signs that lend character to the place, such as this great neon sign, for Tabler Furniture.
Tabler Furniture is still in business, serving as a small-town Circuit City, I suppose. In addition to that neon sign, the side wall (which greets you as you arrive into Larned eastbound on US 56).
This is the area where US 56 curves northward, and Broadway Street begins. Across from Tabler Furniture…
… is a giant Pawnee County Co-Op grain elevator…
… and a very old hotel, where another old neon sign is still hanging in there.
